Let us take you to the hidden world of the majestic Andes Mountains. Within half an hour car ride we enter a world of serenity, infinity and century long traditions of the Arrieros (local cowboys) and their families.

On horseback we follow a small trail through a small and green valley, leading towards the mountains tops. We notice the changes in the vegetation related to the altitude and sun exposition. Every so often, impressive condors honor us with their presence. At the rhythm of the small and robust Chilean horses, born and bred in the mountains and with a very steady step, we take in the stunning vistas. Here we share for a couple of days the daily life of our Arrieros Ismael or his father, our guides in this adventure.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: We will pick you up at 9:00 am at your hotel in Santiago and join Ismael or Melchor, our local Arrieros, who are waiting for us. The horses are ready to go and the mules will carry our food & equipment for the whole trip. We start our steady climb up and soon we are deep into the mountains. We enjoy our first lunch close to a small river; a short trekking will lead us to a waterfall. In the afternoon, we reach our base camp called the Quesería, a place with an amazing view of the mountains. Here we are at nearly 2500 m high. We set up the tents, build a fire and enjoy aperitif before the barbecue dinner.
  • Day 2: The second we have breakfast al together before we wrap up our base camp and start our journey downhill via another route towards the farm.  There is the option to ride back via the river, savor a hearty lunch there and enjoy an optional swim.
