On this tour, you’ll choose two wineries to visit on a day tour. We give you the information, you decide, and we take care of the rest.
The first step on your wine journey starts with identifying which valley you want to visit from the descriptions below.
Once you’ve made your choice, please pick 2 of the winery options for your valley of choice and book. Please write the names of your winery choices in the “Order Notes” field of the checkout page.
*Please note that not all wineries may be working on the date you choose, and if any changes are required, we’ll email you and discuss these with you
Casablanca Valley
Located 40 minutes from Santiago, the Casablanca Valley is famous for its cool climate wines—especially whites and elegant reds. This ideal terroir comes from a combination of:
- Sloped hills and coastal breezes
- A variety of soils and elevations
- Extreme temperature shifts between day and night, which slow ripening and deepen flavor
Though this valley is usually famous for its crisp Sauvignon Blancs and non-oaky Chardonnays, it is also a fantastic source of Pinot Noirs and Syrah.
Casablanca houses a variety of wineries, from small to mid-scale operations like Veramonte and Casas del Bosque, to boutique operations, like Bodegas RE. The newness of the valley, which only started being used for wine production during the early 1980s, means that a lot of these wineries approach winemaking in a more playful way.
It’s no wonder this valley is home to some of Chile’s most celebrated boutique wineries.
Some of our favourite wineries in this area are:
- Bodegas RE – A small but mighty winery, 90% of their yield is sold in the local market. Here, the joy of experimentation and love of the craft is evidenced in every corner, from their one of a kind blends, and their winemaking techniques, to their heritage liqueur aging rooms.
- William Cole – Now part of Tapihue Wines, this truly boutique winery makes little noise, but the quality of their wines makes it an absolute favourite amongst our travellers
- Casas del Bosque – Considered a small operation for Chilean standards, this beautiful winery, featured as one of the 50World’s Best, blends landscape, beautiful wines, and delicious food in its 3 in-house restaurants.
- Veramonte – Also a small operation, this organic and biodynamic experience takes you through the entire ecosystem surrounding the production of a single bottle.
- Catrala – Nestled at the edge of a nature preserve, this newer winery provides a visit where winemaking is inextricably linked to the native ecosystem which surrounds it.
- Emiliana – Mid-scale organic and biodynamic operation. This larger scale winery blends production from 5 different sites in its wines.
- Kingston Family Vineyards – This small-scale organic, family operation has a long history, valuing traditional winemaking, and bringing together the traditions of California and Casablanca.
Maipo Valley
Maipo is the river valley where most of Santiago is located. Whereas Casablanca is usually a synonym of experimentation and coastal whites, Maipo is famous for its traditional wineries, where full bodied reds thrive under the protection of the Andes cool climate wines—especially whites and elegant reds. This ideal terroir comes from a combination of:
- Sloped hills and high minerality
- Clay soils with high permeability
- Stable climate with dry summers and moderate winters
Though this valley is usually famous for its full bodied Cabernet Sauvignons and Carmeneres, there are many wineries nestled on the coast range, bringing higher complexity and variety to the valley’s production. Maipo is also much larger than Casablanca, so please be prepared for potentially longer driving times between wineries.
Maipo houses a variety of wineries, from the massive scale, historic Concha y Toro and Santa Rita estates, to boutique, organic ventures like Las Arucarias.
Some of our favourite wineries in this area are:
- Aquitania – Nestled on the foothills of the Andes, This urban winery protects the fields where Carmenere was rediscovered
- Las Araucarias – This boutique organic family winery sits in Isla de Maipo. With almost 400 years of family history in vine plantations its, premium wines are a beautiful blend o tradition and innovation.
- Haras de Pirque – A must see for any architecture lover. The production facilities are nestled on the side of a hill and use the gradient of the mountain during the production process
- Santa Rita – One of the most traditional wineries in the country, the Santa Rita estate is a must see for anyone interested no only in wine, but also Chilean colonial history
- Perez Cruz – This sustainable family venture is one of the youngest in the area. After an initial focus on full bodied reds, they now have a new, very interesting line of “cool” wines made from Grenache vines
- Concha y Toro – Internationally renown, Concha y Toro is the largest winery in the country. It is also one of the oldest. This visit to the Pirque estate provides an overview of the brand as well as its history.
- Cousiño Macul – This urban winery is also one of the oldest in the country. Steeped in tradition, it flourished under the guidance of a matriarch. This visit is history and tradition in the middle of the city.
